Cost of Club Foot (CTEV) Treatment in India

Treatment overview

Club foot (congenital talipes equinovarus, or CTEV) is a common congenital condition in which a baby's foot is turned inward and downward at birth due to abnormal development of the foot's tendons, ligaments, and bones. It affects one or both feet and is more common in boys. The good news is that club foot is one of the most treatable congenital differences in paediatric orthopaedics. The modern standard of care — the Ponseti method — uses a sequence of gentle weekly manipulation and casting, usually followed by a small Achilles tendon release, and then several years of night-time bracing. Most children treated this way walk, run, and play sports without significant limitation. A small number of cases, particularly those diagnosed late or associated with a neuromuscular condition, require surgical correction.

2 approaches available for this treatment / procedure:

Ponseti Method (Serial Casting + Achilles Tenotomy)

The internationally recommended non-surgical approach: weekly plaster casts reshape the foot gradually, followed by a small Achilles tendon release and a foot brace worn nightly for several years.

Comprehensive Investigations

Estimated cost: ~$100 – $200

Typical tests: Clinical examination and Pirani severity scoring, X-ray of affected foot/feet (AP and lateral — if child is older), Paediatric anaesthesia fitness assessment (for tenotomy sedation), CBC (complete blood count), Blood group and Rh typing. Done in India before admission.

Treatment / Procedure estimate

Estimated cost in India: $500 – $2,000

Stay in India

Pre-procedure stay (outside hospital): ~1 days

Hospitalisation: ~2 days

Recovery period (outside hospital): ~7 days recommended

Total stay: approx 10 days

Usually Included in Hospital Package

  • Paediatric orthopaedic surgeon consultation and Pirani scoring
  • Pre-procedure diagnostics (clinical assessment, X-ray if indicated)
  • Casting series — manipulation and long leg plaster casts (per session)
  • Percutaneous Achilles tenotomy (day-care procedure) with final cast
  • Initial foot abduction brace fitting and guidance
  • Post-procedure follow-up during India stay

Club Foot Correction Surgery

Surgical correction for cases that did not fully respond to casting, relapsed, or were diagnosed late — involves tendon transfers, soft tissue releases, or bony realignment under general anaesthesia.

Treatment / Procedure estimate

Estimated cost in India: $2,000 – $11,000

For more details, visit: Club Foot Correction Surgery →

Usually Not Included

  • Travel and accommodation
  • Bracing equipment (foot abduction brace / boots and bar) beyond initial fitting
