Dr. Bharat Shah is a highly distinguished nephrologist and kidney transplant specialist with over 46 years of clinical experience in nephrology and kidney transplantation. Currently serving as the Director and Head of the Nephrology Department at Gleneagles Hospital, Mumbai, he is one of India's most experienced and respected figures in the field of renal medicine. His career spans four decades of leadership across several renowned hospitals in Mumbai, where he has consistently advanced the standards of kidney care. Dr. Shah completed his medical education at the prestigious KEM Hospital, Mumbai, and further refined his expertise through fellowship training in the United States — including a Clinical Fellowship in Nephrology at the University of Cincinnati Medical Centre and a Clinical Research Fellowship at New England Medical Center, Boston. His areas of special interest include kidney transplantation, chronic kidney disease (CKD) prevention, hypertension, and diabetic kidney disease. Beyond his clinical accomplishments, Dr. Shah is deeply committed to medical education, research, and public health advocacy. He has published more than 90 articles, authored book chapters, and contributed to books on kidney disease and transplantation. He has served as President of the Indian Society of Nephrology (West Zone) and General Secretary of the Zonal Transplant Coordination Committee, Mumbai, and is a founder member and managing trustee of various NGOs dedicated to kidney health.
