Dr. CH. Uma Maheshwara Rao, also famously known as Dr. Chikkam, is a highly accomplished urologist and renal transplant surgeon with an exceptional career dedicated to kidney transplantation and urological care. With over 2,000 kidney transplants performed independently as a lead consultant, and active contribution to over 5,000 kidney transplant procedures throughout his career, Dr. Rao stands as one of the most experienced renal transplant surgeons in the region. He has also pioneered kidney transplant programs at eight centers, demonstrating his leadership and commitment to expanding access to life-saving transplant care. Dr. Rao completed his MBBS at Rangaraya Medical College, Andhra University, in 1992, followed by an MS in General Surgery from the prestigious PGIMER, Chandigarh, in 1997. He further honed his expertise through advanced training in the Kidney Transplant Division at PGIMER. Currently serving as Consultant in the Department of Urology and Renal Transplant Unit at Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS), Hyderabad, he is renowned for his surgical precision, patient-centered approach, and involvement in multi-organ transplant programs including liver and pancreas transplants.
