Dr. S. Sahariah is one of India's most distinguished transplant surgeons and urologists, with over four decades of pioneering experience in organ transplantation. Born in 1945 in Assam, he is widely recognized as a trailblazer who performed the first successful renal transplant operation in the states of Andhra Pradesh (1983) and Assam, and has been instrumental in establishing transplant programs across multiple institutions in India. He has performed more than 3,000 kidney transplant operations and over 500 cadaver renal transplant procedures throughout his career. Dr. Sahariah has dedicated his career to advancing organ transplantation in India, serving as the Head of the Organ Transplantation Centre at the Osmania University and establishing renal transplant programs at numerous leading hospitals. His contributions extend to cadaveric organ transplantation advocacy, legislative efforts, and training the next generation of transplant surgeons. He has been associated with prestigious institutions including the PGI Chandigarh, AIIMS-level centers, and multiple corporate hospitals across Hyderabad and Northeast India.
