The recipient has no genetic link to the child but experiences the full pregnancy and birth, and is the legal parent from the moment of birth. It is typically considered when neither partner can contribute viable eggs or sperm, after repeated unsuccessful IVF cycles, or for single women and same-sex couples seeking parenthood. The process involves a medical evaluation, counselling, matching with a donated embryo through a registered ART bank, hormone preparation of the uterine lining over two to three weeks, and a short, painless embryo transfer procedure in the clinic. A pregnancy test is done approximately two weeks after the transfer.
