Thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) is a minimally invasive procedure used to repair serious diseases of the thoracic aorta — the large artery that carries blood from the heart through the chest. Instead of opening the chest, a vascular surgeon guides a fabric-covered metal stent-graft through a small incision in the groin and deploys it precisely inside the damaged section of the aorta, creating a new channel for blood flow and sealing off the diseased area. TEVAR is used to treat thoracic aortic aneurysms, type B aortic dissections, traumatic aortic injuries, and other conditions where the aortic wall is weakened or torn. Because it avoids open chest surgery, most patients recover considerably faster than with traditional open repair, typically spending two to five days in hospital and returning to normal activities within four to eight weeks. Lifelong imaging surveillance and blood pressure control are essential after the procedure.
